People receiving care at home or in nursing homes spent CHF 682 million on care in 2018

Neuchâtel, 12.11.2019 - At the end of 2018, 89 865 people were in long-term care in Switzerland's 1566 nursing homes. 2168 assistance and home care services provided 16.9 million hours of care and more than 6 million hours of assistance to 367 378 people. In addition to premiums, excesses and coinsurance paid to health insurance companies, care recipients had to pay CHF 682 million from their own pockets. These are some of the findings from the Statistics on Home Care Services and the Statistics on Nursing Homes from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
