EasyGov.swiss: new trans-agency services for company relocations and business closures

Bern, 15.10.2024 - On 9 October, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) again expanded EasyGov.swiss, the online portal for companies. Two additional cross-authority services are now available to companies: with the company relocation service, companies can report a change of address to all relevant authorities in one go. EasyGov's business closure service assists companies with all the necessary process steps, from registering liquidation to deletion.

One-stop shop for relocation
The new service makes it easier for companies to register changes of address, even if they are moving to another commune. EasyGov users can now complete the entire company relocation process in one go and report the new address to all the authorities already integrated in EasyGov, in particular the relevant authorities for the commercial register, VAT, social security, accident insurance and labour market authorities. The change of address in the commercial register is being developed as a separate process within the framework of commercial register mutations and will be integrated into the change of address process at a later date. With EasyGov, it is also possible to report changes to private companies such as banks and insurance companies. By running through a catalogue of questions and referring to existing company data, the system identifies all offices to which the change of address must be reported. That way EasyGov clarifies reporting obligations and guides companies through all the steps.

Comprehensive business closure process
The new comprehensive service for closing a business also includes multiple authorities, similar to EasyGov's existing service for setting up a new company, which is why it is based on the same process. The business closure process covers all the steps required to close a company and comply with legal requirements.

In a first step, EasyGov clarifies reporting obligations. This depends on the individual case and the existing entries in the VAT and commercial register. EasyGov then guides the user through the various notification processes. The process steps for closing a business vary due to the different requirements of Switzerland's diverse business landscape. There are also different processes depending on the legal form and size of the company. EasyGov takes this into account. Sole proprietorships in particular will benefit from the new service, which allows them to complete the entire company closure process in a single session. In the case of legal entities or corporations such as companies limited by shares or limited liability companies, notarisation is still required. EasyGov facilitates business closures by supporting companies every step of the way, from registering liquidation to deletion.

All parts of the business closure process are also available individually. This allows for customised company closures, which adds significant value for businesses.

Applications for cross-border commuter permits in St Gallen
Businesses in the canton of St Gallen can now process permits for cross-border commuters on EasyGov. After Zurich, Thurgau, Basel-Stadt and Aargau, St Gallen is the fifth canton to expand the services offered by its Migration Office, thus taking a further step towards the digitalisation of government services. Other services, such as work permits for third-country nationals and secondments from EU/EFTA countries, will be added gradually over the coming months to further expand the digital service catalogue for companies in St Gallen.

More services planned
EasyGov currently provides companies with over 50 services from various federal and cantonal authorities. Its services will be expanded in the coming years. EasyGov was launched at the end of 2017. To date, it has around 100,000 registered companies. That is about 1/6 of all companies in Switzerland.
