State Secretary Martina Hirayama receives Malaysian Minister of Higher Education

Bern, 06.09.2024 - On 6 September, Martina Hirayama, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, received the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education, Zambry Abdul Kadir, in Bern for a courtesy visit. They exchanged views on existing cooperation projects in higher education, research and innovation.

Ms Hirayama and Mr Zambry discussed new developments in the science sector in Switzerland and Malaysia. Both sides presented the priorities of their respective countries in the funding of research and innovation. Discussions also focused on bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, research and innovation (ERI), and the possibility of intensifying this cooperation.

Switzerland and Malaysia maintain good bilateral relations in the field of ERI, which are supported by a number of instruments. SERI has appointed ETH Zurich as the leading house for scientific cooperation with South East Asia for the 2021-2024 funding period. Within this framework, ETH Zurich is launching cooperation instruments for start-up financing and innovative pilot projects. Another instrument is the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships, which since 1978 have enabled nine Malaysian researchers to spend time at a Swiss university.
