Strong population growth in Switzerland in 2023

Neuchâtel, 22.08.2024 - On 31 December 2023, Switzerland's permanent resident population was 8 962 300, which was 1.7% more than in 2022. It is the biggest growth in population recorded since the early 1960s. Between 2022 and 2023, immigration figures rose sharply, mainly due to the inclusion of people from Ukraine with protection status S. At the same time, the ageing of the population continued. These are some of the final results from the Federal Statistical Office's (FSO) Population and Household Statistics.
