Bern, 24.07.2024 - On 25 and 26 July 2024, State Secretary Daniela Stoffel will attend the meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Rio de Janeiro. The delegation will also include Swiss National Bank Chairman Thomas Jordan. Topics such as the global economic and debt situation, the stability and further development of the international financial architecture and international tax issues will be addressed at the meeting under Brazil's Presidency of the G20.

The finance ministers and central bank governors will exchange views on global growth trends and the role of fiscal and monetary policy. Moreover, they will address possible responses to the persistently high debt burden and the challenges in the area of sustainable finance. Other topics for discussion will include a possible declaration on the continuation of international tax cooperation and the implementation of the new regulations on the taxation of large international companies.

Switzerland will emphasise the importance of international financial stability. In addition, it will take part in discussions on digitalisation in the financial sector and join a G20 ministerial meeting on a global alliance to combat hunger and poverty. State Secretary Daniela Stoffel will also take the opportunity to hold bilateral talks.

Following an invitation by Brazil, Switzerland is taking part in the G20 Finance Track for the ninth consecutive time this year. The meeting of finance ministers from 25 to 26 July is the third of four such meetings in 2024.
