“D-A-CH” meeting on the security policy situation
Bern, 02.07.2024 - President Viola Amherd, head of the DDPS, is attending the annual high-level meeting of the defence ministers of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The meeting takes place on 2 and 3 July in Vienna.
At the meeting, President of the Swiss Confederation Amherd will discuss security policy developments in Europe and worldwide with Austrian Minister of Defence Klaudia Tanner and German Parliamentary State Secretary Thomas Hitschler, who will be representing Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius. The current security policy situation requires frequent exchanges between partner and neighbouring countries. The “D-A-CH” meeting is a tried and tested platform for this.
This year’s meeting will focus on assessing the current crises in the world, in particular the war in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East and developments in the Western Balkans. Trilateral relations and current issues will also be on the agenda. In particular, there will be an exchange on the status of Germany’s European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), for which Switzerland and Austria signed a memorandum of understanding at the same meeting last year in Bern. Switzerland’s participation in ESSI focuses on improving the coordination of procurement projects, training and logistical aspects of ground-based air defence.
