Small rise in Schengen visa fees
Bern, 07.06.2024 - From 11 June 2024, there will be a small rise in the fee charged for a short-stay visa in all Schengen states. This is a result of a change to the Visa Code, which Switzerland has adopted as a member of the Schengen area. The Federal Council approved the rise in visa fees at its meeting on 7 June.
The cost of a short-stay visa (90 days out of a total of 180 days) will rise from the current 80 euros to 90 euros for adults, and from 40 euros to 45 euros for children aged 6 to 12. The fee increase applies to the whole of the Schengen area. Visas for children under the age of six are still free of charge.
This change to the Visa Code is a development of the Schengen acquis, which Switzerland has adopted. The Visa Code harmonises the fees charged for short-stay visas by all the Schengen states. Every three years, the European Commission reviews these amounts and adjusts them if necessary. The increase being made reflects actual costs and covers the expenses incurred by the consulates.
At its meeting on 7 June 2024, the Federal Council approved the amendment to the Ordinance on Fees under the Federal Act on Foreign Nationals and Integration, which sets the fees charged for visas. In Switzerland, the same increase in visa fees applies to long-stay visas (national visas).
