Council of Europe adopts Convention on Artificial Intelligence developed with the contribution of Switzerland

Biel/Bienne, 17.05.2024 - On 17 May 2024, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted the Convention on Artificial Intelligence (AI) at its 133rd Ministerial Session, which was attended by the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Ignazio Cassis. The aim of the convention is to ensure compliance with the legal standards applicable to AI in terms of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. Switzerland was actively involved throughout the negotiations, which lasted a year and a half.
